After the enormous effort made for the Peace Agreement (signed in September 2016) that ended more than 50 years of conflict with more than eight million victims, Colombia is in a crucial moment that will define the path for the next decades. To understand the present, heal the wounds from the past and build a solid peace fabric for the future, it is necessary to look at ourselves from a different angle and understand the tremendous complexity of our history and the contradictions that had been part of us.
Our Weaving Peace tour is our way to address a central part of Colombia’s story and present moment, on a fun, interactive and didactic way. Whether you are interested in history and politics, or just culture and gastronomy, this is for you. We have crafted this tour with the help of the academia, artists, changemakers and chefs to make it a MUST for every traveler that comes to Colombia.
This tour visits different key spots at Bogota’s city center, walk along Avenida Jimenez towards Plaza de Bolivar learning about all the history that holds the streets as you taste a variety of street food. Arrive to Fragmentos space an anti-monument by the renown Colombian artist Doris Salcedo that speaks about the transition towards peace (gallery closed on Mondays). Be delighted visiting a selection of stops to absorb the stories of hope through exotic flavor ice cream and a selection of exquisite chocolate.
The Full Experience 6 hours (see add-on on checkout) includes hotel pickup and dropoff and a couple of extra stops: a visit to Casa de la Paz, an open for dialogue space where we will taste craft beer made by former FARC combatants and hear about their process to incorporate back into society and have a chance to know more about the entrepreneurships arising from the peace process. We finish off with a lunch at a farm-to-table restaurant that makes contributions to peacebuilding communities though their unique and delicious food.
Travelers on the Weaving Peace tour support initiatives that are contributing to the peacebuilding process from different perspectives. Preserving biodiverse crops throughout Colombia and who work hand in hand with conflict-vulnerable farmer communities through fair trade and association. Promoting productive projects that guarantee opportunities out of war-based economies for previously conflict-involved communities throughout the country. Generating economic inclusion for actors that are transitioning from war-based economies.
